OTAM 58 HT Chase-boat : World debut at next Cannes Yachting Festival

OTAM launches the brand new 58HT M/Y “Crazy Too”, the 25th evolution of the successful OTAM Millenium 58 Hardtop series.

Built to be the chase-boat for an existing superyacht owned by  Egyptian businessman Naguib Sawiris, Crazy Too is a unique boat, a concentration of performance, technology and design.

Powered by twin Caterpillar C32 Acert engines with 1724Hp each, the new 58HT stands out at a first glance for a custom coloured black hull and hardtop, with a deck entirely wrapped in a “carbon look” film, applied by the expert company Wild Group International.

The interiors are equally customised with a three cabin layout that has been masterfully designed by Cristiano Gatto Design to suit the owner’s tastes.  In detail, the layout includes a single cabin to starboard with an en-suite bathroom also accessible from the salon as a day bathroom, a twin guest cabin to port with an en-suite bathroom, an open space salon area with a very comfortable L-shaped couch, and a fully equipped kitchen area complete with a 16 bottle custom wine cellar.  Finally, forward is the full-beam master cabin with en-suite bathroom.

The owner’s brief to Cristiano Gatto was very concise: “I would like a total black look”. The result: a splinter of obsidian, a sparkling Open with its “all black” livery!

The Cristiano Gatto Design Team customized the open air areas and the ample below decks spaces, giving them character thanks to  sophisticated chromatic combinations using high quality materials with exceptional finish. Delicate shades of beige used for textiles and leathers, furnished by Extreme, are combined with the black hull and deck. For the on-deck sitting areas Sunbrella fabrics and Marina Mill chenille were chosen, while below decks natural linen and cotton materials were chosen, along with high technology synthetics such as carbon fiber for the tables and furniture tops surfaces and also as a decorative material on doors and cupboards, with Majilite covering the owners cabin walls located in the “V” bow. This material uses Nitek which reproduces the structure of natural leather, giving a wrinkle free surface just like a second skin. Internal furnitures, with rounded corners, are created with a bright black mirror finish, while the bathroom showers are tiled with multicolored Bisazza and the sinks are magnificent black glass.

But the new 58HT also pushes the electronics envelope, both audio/visual and navigational. The custom built AV system on board Crazy Too is extraordinary, adopting the same sophisticated entertainment found aboard the mother boat. It delivers impressive power that is difficult to find out on boats of this size, and everything is managed by iPhone and mini iPads.

The cockpit has 6 Revel High End Speakers driven by a fully-scalable audio distribution system that delivers high-output audiophile sound quality with 400W per channel! Lower down, the Salon and Master Cabin have Full Surround Sound HD Cinema systems installed, driven by Integra quality amplification and HDMI switching, with ‘pack-a-punch’ teeny-tiny Anthony Gallo Spherical Speakers. This enables the guests to have a full audio-visual experience in any space they prefer, all courtesy of expert superyacht installers AV Riviera.

Furthermore the M7 satellite dome allows the guests to watch prime television from satellites worldwide, including the UK, Europe and Egypt.

On the navigational side, to suit the wide cruising range and the experienced and demanding crew on board, a radar and electronic chart system typically found on workboats was selected for Crazy Too by supplier AGC Marine. The Transas NaviSailor 4000 MFD software suite gives professional route planning and target tracking features typically found on commercial vessels. An approved daylight view panel computer, manufactured by Hatteland Display, guarantees the availability of essential information to the Captain at both midday and midnight.  The high speed radar antenna ensures targets do not pass unnoticed at high cruising speeds, and an Automatic Identification System (AIS) transponder allows traffic to be safely negotiated.

Finally, Internet access is served by a dual connection 4G router allowing movement from one country to another without swapping SIM cards or changing the units’ configuration. The possibility also exists of smoothly connecting to Wi-Fi or marina broadband services.

Owner’s Representative Alex Banning of SuperYachtsMonaco says: “We had a long task in finding the right balance of shipyard, quality, ability to customize and performance above 43 knots. We needed a chase boat brand with pedigree, history, financial backing and the ability to guarantee that the boat would achieve the 51 knots contract speed. OTAM has excelled throughout the process.”

The Owner’s Long Term Captain Simon Mortlock added: “OTAM delivered a seriously impressive chase boat exactly as initially promised, on time, and with the same level of customization one sees on superyachts.  A nice surprise was OTAM delivering on their promise of speed by exceeding the contracted speed by six knots! The owner will really enjoy this new addition to the fleet.”

To sum up, Antonio Caviglia, OTAM Sales & Marketing Director says: “Crazy Too is really a unique boat: a chase-boat that can also be used for a weekend cruise dedicated to fun and speed, with virtually all of the amenities you could desire on board a superyacht. OTAM has created a yacht that combines – in an original synthesis – state of the art  on-board electronics, design and outstanding performance on the water, typical of all of the yard’s models”.
