X Yachts X46 : Scandinavian quality

X-Yachts-X-46Construction.

Designed by naval architect Niels Jeppesen, the X-46 is one of the major innovations unveiled at the 2004 autumn-winter boat shows. This 46-footer built with a sandwich hull and deck and galvanized steel girder is the new addition to Danish manufacturer
X-Yachts’ range of cruising yachts.

Deck. The X-46 is equipped with the best deck gear on the market and is designed to work to winward, easily exceeding 40°. A huge wheel at the stern allows more precise manoeuvring. Access to the stern platform can be tricky since the hull has no opening, in order to ensure better rigidity. The mainsheet runs underneath the teak deck, leaving the catwalks almost entirely uncluttered. With a nine-tenths rig and the right sails, the X-46 will prove a formidable competitor in regattas.

Interior. The saloon is slightly off-centre to make maximum use of space. Opposite the saloon on the port side is a very well-equipped open-plan galley. To starboard, there is a large chart table. Beneath the cockpit are two double cabins with somewhat low ceilings. They share the bathroom to the left of the companionway. In the bow, the large master cabin has its own bathroom. All interior woodwork is teak with a smooth finish.

A 55 hp diesel engine offers a cruising speed of 7.5 knots. Easy to manoeuvre under sail or with the engine, the X-46 combines the sailing performance and luxurious comfort of Scandinavian boats. The only snag could be the price: at least 30% more expensive than other boats of the same size.
