Fairline Targa 38: European Boat of the Year 2007
03/2008 –
Construction
Winner of the European Boat of the Year award for the second year in a row, British manufacturer Fairline’s reputation is well-established, with every new launch meeting with unstinting praise. In 2006 the award went to the Targa 47, and this year to the new 38-foot express cruiser unveiled at the last Cannes boat show.
Above deck
The outer appearance of the Targa 38 is reminiscent of the rest of the range, with fine, elegant lines and flowing curves around the windshield and side windows. This elegant package contains a well thought-out design too. The cockpit houses a saloon with a large bench seat and a table with a smart fold-away system that allows it to be easily stowed in the seating area. The entire deck is teak laid, as is the aft bathing platform, accessed via a transom gate. Although the cockpit stretches deep inside the boat and could therefore feel confined, Fairline has created a generous sense of space.
Below deck
Unlike her predecessors, the comfortable interior of the Targa 38 is in light wood, and is brighter below deck thanks to the numerous portholes and hatch covers. The large owner’s cabin is in the bow, furnished with a double berth and plenty of stowage space. A second twin cabin is located under the cockpit and is pleasantly spacious. The saloon in the centre converts to a double berth, and also houses an attractive bathroom and a well-equipped galley. There is a large work surface and the space is well ventilated.
Engines
This new express cruiser comes with two different engine configurations. The Targa 38 can be fitted with two 260 HP Volvo engines, or with 2 x 310 HP Volvos for a maximum speed of 40 knots (according the manufacturer).
