Solaris One 37: Issues a challenge to 45 footers
30 years after the launch of the original Solaris 37, the boatyard in Aquileia launches a new model for a demanding public who require high quality, safety and refinement. With the introduction of this model, Solaris offers the market a sub 40’ yacht with the same levels of comfort and build quality normally only associated with larger models in the range.
One unique feature is the large separate shower cubicle in the en-suite bathroom of the owners cabin, an ideal solution for couples who prefer to sail in complete autonomy without sacrificing seaworthiness, speed and the volume of larger yachts. The interior has been studied and designed to offer maximum comfort to a couple. There are two cabins: a wide owners cabin forward and a guest cabin aft. The bathroom offers a 120×110 cm separate shower.
The objective has been to create affordable technical solutions, blending performance, safety and high quality materials, typical of the other successful yachts in the Solaris One range: 44’, 48’ and 60’.
The project was conceived in collaboration with the Argentinean naval architect Soto Acebal, designer of the Solaris One 44’ and in the limelight for designing some of the most important projects on the international sailing scene, including the Wally 100’ and Wally 130’.
Hull
Following thorough tank tests and performance analysis of the Soto 40‘ (Med Cup monotype) a hull with a high chine has been selected. The utilization of the aft corner has been fundamental to designing a round aft section, otherwise impossible with a traditional hull, with a consequent reduction in drag. The stern is perfectly vertical, a signature of the Soto Acebal design, with a very narrow waterline and flared foredeck.
Deck
Typical of the One range, the 37′ has the gunwale integrated into the hull. The ergonomic design enables the deck area aft of the steering wheels to be clear and safe. All the halyards are lead aft to the cockpit and are concealed below deck and the sprayhood is integrated into deck to provide protection for the cockpit. All deck equipment is the typical high standard of Solaris: T shape keel, flush portholes and hatches, chainplates integrated into hull, hull windows and coachroof windows in tempered crystal, hydraulic opening bathing platform. The sail plan has a 108% blade jib which delivers optimum performance and ease of sail handling. For strong conditions an integrated bowsprit forward is offered, where a separate furler can be positioned.
The interior layout provides two cabins and a bathroom with class leading volume and comfort. The forward owners cabin is similar to that of a 44′, Adjacent the companionway is the well-equipped galley, the chart area is to starboard and amidships is a wide saloon with seating for eight. The bathroom has a separate shower and numerous stowage areas.
Construction
Stiffness and strength for maximum safety and performance at sea. Composite forward and main bulkheads, with a sandwich construction 25 mm thick, vacuum laminated chainplates with 28 layers of unidirectional and bidirectional fibres, all the bulkheads are resin bonded to the hull and deck without using a structural matrix. T shaped keel with a top flange 1100 cm x 34 cm mounted in a hull recess and attached with 12 300 mm stainless steel bolts.
The worldpremier of hull number 1 will be presenter during next Genoa boat show.
