Alutech Marine – A43

First born.

Alutech Marine, the Franco-Spanish manufacturer based 40 km from Madrid, is launching its first line of aluminium sailing yachts with an ambitious design by Guy Ribadeau Dumas. The first model in the range will be the A-43, an aluminium cutter with double bilge, keel and rudder. The key focus of Alutech Marine’s latest project is quality combined with lower production costs thanks to the use of digital cutting technology for almost all the components. This is a yacht designed for safe, long-haul sailing with a small crew or even single-handed crossings, all at a very competitive price.

Safety and comfort.

The A-43 has a decent sail area, 102 m² for a 1.80 metre draught. It has a yankee with a small overlap and a self-tacking foresail for easy manoeuvrability, allowing even single-handed skippers to take on long crossings and bad weather. Moreover, the two keels and double rudder make for plain sailing close to the wind and provide excellent stability on the move. The double keel easily supports the boat’s 11 tons in the event of beaching. Below deck, a lot of thought has clearly gone into providing comfort during those long crossings. There is a spacious saloon area with U-shaped bench seat. On the aft port side, there is a roomy cabin with plenty of stowage and a large shower room that can also be used to hang foul weather gear. On the starboard side, the companionway provides back support while cooking in the L-shaped galley, which has plenty of work surfaces as well as access to a locker where most of the yacht’s equipment can be stored. This locker can be transformed into a second aft cabin on request. There is a large cabin in the bow, and another locker accessible from the deck or from the cabin, meaning it can be easily converted into a second bathroom.

Quality and cost control.

The first A-43 will be launched in Autumn 2006, and the unit is expected to perform well at sea. To provide unbeatable quality, digital cutting technology was used to build the hull, and the use of moulds avoids any deformation of the aluminium during welding. The interior fittings are also cut digitally to reduce production costs, a saving that is reflected in the sales price. The electrics are designed for easy disassembly which means that any new components can be easily added without calling in a specialist. When ordering, buyers can request the pre-installation of electrical connections for pilots, radars, watermakers etc. With its sailability and reasonable price, this first mass-produced model from Alutech Marine is a must for long-haul sailors.
