Pasqui Trophy 2006

05/2006 –

A celebration of marine carpentry.

From May 18th to 21st, Villefranche-sur-Mer hosts the second Trophée
Pasqui, which is the second stage of the 2006 Mediterranean Circuit
after Majorca in Spain. Under the patronage of the Odyssée d'Ulysse
Yacht Club, the event in the Bay of Villefranche is a gathering of some
of the finest flagships in the Mediterranean's classic fleet, including
Zaca, Lelantina, Moonbeam IV, Hallowe'en and Tuiga. The two-stage
regatta takes place between Villefranche and the Bay of Nice. On Friday
May 19th, the fleet will leave the Bay of Villefranche around midday,
heading for their turning point in the Bay of Nice, in front of the
Negresco Hotel, before returning to the Port de la Darse. Meanwhile, on
land, marine carpentry and other nautical professions will be presented
in the port, a shining example of Villefranche's maritime heritage.
Concerts will take place every evening in the Jardins de la Darse park.

Villefranche and its tradition of marine carpentry.

In 2004, Evenement Voile created a Trophy in the name of Gilbert
Pasqui, marine carpenter and student of the master carpenter Silvestro.
The first year's event was a success and the organisers are now holding
a second edition, open to classic yachts and all those who have
benefited from the expert advice of the Pasqui shipyards. For 40 years,
this shipyard, which specialises in spars, has been providing
high-quality restoration services to classic yachts from all over the
world. Naval repairs are an activity that has practically never ceased
in the Port de la Darse. The reopening of the dry dock in 2001 and the
works begun in 2005 to replace one of the landing stages are proof that
the port of Villefranche is determined to become one of the leading
ports along the French Riviera. The second edition of the Trophée
Pasqui, and the arrival of so many classic yachts, will be yet another
step in this direction.
