The Scorpione Dei Mare, a Jongert 2900M, has won the three-day regatta “The Superyacht Cup Palma 2010”. Another Jongert yacht, the Ithaka, a Jongert  2700M, finished  third in  the international field of competitors. A Jongert team was present to assist both crews.

‘With 21 competing yachts of amongst others Perini Navi, Vitters Shipyard, Alloy Yachts, Southen Wind, Royal Huisman, Baltic and Claasen Jachtbouw, the competition was very tough’, says a spokesman of Jongert Shipyard. ‘Both teams on board the Jongert yachts consisted of family and friends. People who  indeed  have much experience and are very enthusiastic, but for whom this is not their daily work. This proves once again that it is a combination of quality and design of the sailing yacht and the quality and the willpower of the crew. Besides the fact that these yachts are extremely comfortable for their crew, they are also outright winners! And  we are very proud of them.’

Both yachts are designed and built in aluminum and equipped with a carbon mast and boom. ‘These lightweight yachts are performing particularly well in light weather. During the Superyacht Cup there was hardly any wind. The average wind speed was 4 to 5 knots. The lightweight and slim-built Jongert yachts had a definite advantage. It should also be said that both crews used every light breeze to the fullest. Both in close hauled reaches and in broad reaches, they performed extremely well.’

Management and staff of Jongert Shipyard are proud of the performance of the crews of the Scorpione Dei Mare and the Ithaka. ‘Jongert is back in the race!’
