Jeanneau Prestige 42: Space and intelligence

03/2006 – Construction

At the last Paris boat show, French shipyard Jeanneau presented a number of new products, the largest of which is the Prestige 42 Fly. There are 6 units in this range, and the 42 fits in between the Prestige 36 and the largest model, the Prestige 46, released in 2002.  The forthcoming Prestige 50 soon to be released is however set to become the Vendée shipyard’s flagship.

Above deck

Jeanneau’s Prestige 42 Fly has very slim lines, with the hull by Michael Peters and design by Vittorio Garroni, working in cooperation with the manufacturer’s own design office. The combined result is magnificent. The teak-covered cockpit is home to a central bench seat against the transom, which allows access to the bathing platform from either side. As its name implies, the Prestige 42 is equipped with a fly deck with forward helm station, a small saloon aft, and a number of small sundecks. The fly deck is accessed via a staircase that is fully enclosed by a guardrail for maximum safety. A spacious sundeck is located at the bow.

Below deck

The cockpit and wheelhouse are separated by double sliding doors. Inside, the wheelhouse has plenty of natural light, with 360o glazing and light-coloured woodwork. There is an impressive amount of space on board. The saloon is formed by a U-shaped bench seat and a table that folds out to accommodate more guests. A small couch, cleverly installed opposite the saloon, can be pulled in to form a large double berth. The helm station, forward of the wheelhouse, is slightly higher than the other indoor areas and has a two-seater bench seat. The two cabins are on the lower level. The owner’s cabin in the bow has a large, double berth, a washroom with toilet, and a separate shower. The guest cabin is centre starboard and has twin beds, assembled on sliding rails meaning they can be pulled together to form a double berth. Yet another example of smart design to optimise space. Lastly, the galley is well equipped with refrigerator, hob, oven etc.

Engines

Jeanneau offers only one engine option. The 11-ton Prestige 42 is powered by two 425 hp Cummins Mercruiser engines that provide a maximum speed of over 30 knots.
