Aicon 72 Open : Pure style
The Sicilian based Italian manufacturer Aicon unveils its latest, magnificent 72-foot flagship, a 23-metre Open first presented at the Cannes boat show in September and now on display at the Genoa show. The yacht’s design and superbly sleek lines make a big impression, as do the large, circular portholes in either side of the hull. Already seen on the Aicon 64, they let in plenty of light to the master cabin, adding to the sense of space.
The Italian manufacturer has certainly not sacrificed space on board, starting with the cockpit (accessed by two port and starboard doors), which has a large bathing platform at the stern. To facilitate access to the tender compartment, the platform can be raised by hydraulic jacks. Access to the forward sundeck is easy, thanks to broad gangways and the high handrails that surround ¾ of the boat.
Inside, the Aicon 72 is anything but disappointing, with a particularly bright and spacious deckhouse. The electric Hard-Top is a standard fitting that, combined with the many windows, ensures an impressive amount of daylight and 360° visibility. The pilot house is on the port side, forward of a large saloon. The colour of the woodwork also adds to the sense of light on board. In terms of accommodation, the Aicon 72 has three spacious and comfortable cabins. The master cabin is in the centre of the hull, for maximum stability, with a wide double berth and two large portholes. In the bow, there is a guest cabin with double berth, and a twin cabin on the starboard side. Each cabin has a private bathroom with shower, sink and toilet. The manufacturer also offers the option of a four-cabin interior with eight berths rather than six. There is an additional cabin with two single berths for crew.
For the engines, there are two possibilities, either 2 x 1 360 hp MTU, or 2 x 1 570 hp Caterpillar. The Aicon 72 boasts a more than respectable cruising speed of 33 knots and a maximum speed of 38 knots.
