Construction.

Robertson and Caine is one of South Africa’s leading shipyards. It was founded in 1975 and today supplies chartering company Moorings with all its cruising catamarans. The Leopard 40 is the Moorings 4000. Designed in the offices  of Gino Morelli and Pete Melvin, the architects of Steve Fossett’s Playstation, this catamaran promises great  things.

Deck.

The cockpit is particularly roomy for a 40′ and is protected by a rigid bimini that can be opened just above the helm station to keep an eye on the sails. The Leopard 40 is narrower than average, making it faster when close hauled. A unique feature of all Robertson boats is the easy access to the coachroof via the louvered steps that serve  as sunshades for the forward portholes.

Interior. A large bay window provides access to the saloon from outside, letting in plenty of air and light. The chart
table has been removed from the charter version to leave more space. To starboard, a U-shaped kitchen-bar with a hatch to the cockpit. In both the 3 (owner) and 4-cabin (charter) versions, each hull has an independent bathroom. An additional berth in each forepeak means the boat can sleep up to 10 passengers.

Two 40 hp engines give a cruising speed of 8 knots. Thanks to its talented architects, the Leopard 40 offers  better performance than any other catamaran in the same category, without sacrificing the comfort.
